Art Club **New group** If you want to learn more about the Philadelphia art scene, this is your club. Our casual events include trips to galleries, studio visits, or occasional "First Friday" gatherings. If you want to discover more about art and new artists, consider coming along. For more information, contact: Art Club Book Group - Daytime Welcome one and all! This informal, friendly group meets once a month, in t he morning, to discuss a book chosen by
consensus. The monthly Newcomers Club newsletter provides a preview of
the book to be read at the next gathering ... just to whet your appetite.
Members usually meet at a member's home and new members are always

Daytime BooksBook Group - Evening This is your chance to throw away the excuses and commit to reading! The lively art of discussion is alive and well at this monthly book club that meets at night. Just like the morning book club, a preview of the current month's book is listed in the Newcomers Club newsletter. This group meets in the home of one of the members and new members are encouraged to join! Work (Read) better on a deadline? This group is for you! For more information, contact: Evening Books Bridge - MondayBridge the gap and try your hand! If you are interested in playing a relaxed game of bridge ... this group is for you! Bridge ladies meet every Monday from 9:30 to 12:30 am for the intermediates and 1:00-3:00 pm for the advanced beginers. All correspondence is handled by email. If you are interested in joining either group or giving it a try, don't hesitate. It's in the cards! For more information, contact: Monday Bridge Bridge - Evening Social bridge anyone? If you are interested in playing a relaxed game of bridge at night, this group meets once a month in the evening. As a newcomer to the area, you will find the evening bridge group to be a "hands down" way to build friendships. For more information, contact: Evening Bridge Cycling ![]() Are you interested in taking in the beauty of our surroundings with friends? The Cycling group is a way to do that and get exercise at the same time. Members meet at a central location, get geared up, stop for rest and a brown bag lunch and then peddle back. Cycling truly is "like riding a bike. Once you've done it you never forget." All communication is done through the cycling e-mail loop. So switch into high gear and join in the fun! For more information, contact: Cycling Dragon LadiesThe 6th Annual Philadelphia International Dragon Boat Festival was held October 6th, 2007, on the Schuylkill River. For five years running, the Newcomers Club has supported a courageous group of paddlers who braved the elements for a fun and rewarding day for charity... As for the landlubbers in our group, it was a day to support the team and socialize under the Dragon Ladies tent! For more information, contact: Dragon Ladies E-mail discussion Group We have an online discussion group through Yahoo Groups that allows you to reach out with just a touch of a keyboard. Get quick answers to questions ("where can I find Thai noodles?") or request a recommendation for a pediatrician, doctor or dentist. To join, click: join e-mail group (open to members only) or contact: E-mail group information Foreign Language Chat The German Conversation Group meets every month and often includes a field trip. This friendly, talkative group encourages new members for some relaxed German conversation. Isn't there always time for a chat in any language? For more information, contact: Language Gallivanters ![]() For the adventurous in spirit! The monthly Gallivanters event involves a day trip to Philadelphia or neighboring towns. Past trips have included visiting The Barnes Museum, a Mural Arts tour, antiquing in New Hope and Lambertville, exploring the gardens at Winterthur, a glass blowing demonstration at the Simon Pearce factory, as well as trips to historic homes, show houses and much more! Gallivanter events often include carpooling, lunch and take into consideration school hours so members can be home in time for school pick up or drop off. For more information, contact: Gallivanters. Icebreakers These casual events are often held in a Newcomer member's home and tend to be smaller, more intimate gatherings involving a talk or demonstration. Past Icebreaker programs have included floral design, an informal talk about the history of the Main Line given by a Lower Merion Township historian, scrapbooking, and an exchange of members referrals for The Best of the Main Line. (The list can include
anything from good contractors, the best place to shop, where to get a
haircut, to good restaurants to bring children!) For more information,

IcebreakersInternational Icebreakers An open forum for both old and new international members to exchange ideas, information and tips. Several casual social events (both with and without partners) will be organized during the course of the year. For more information, contact International Icebreakers Holiday Tea An annual favorite! Traditionally this event has been held in mid-December at the Appleford Estate in Villanova. The Holiday Tea is our best event for reuniting with old friends and making new friends in a festive and historic setting. New members pour tea, while others eat finger sandwiches and appetizers. Donations are collected for local charities. The Holiday Tea is a great way to begin the holiday season! For more information, contact: Holiday Tea Luncheons Each month, members are invited to attend a lunch at a local restaurant. At some of our lunches we also have a speaker or a demonstration. Past luncheons have included a speaker from the Main Line Art Center, authors, poets, as well as, experts in Chinese therapy, appraising antiques, etiquette and protocol, wine tasting and plastic surgery. For more information, contact: Luncheons Mothers of Young Children ![]() This is a dynamic, growing group of mothers who meet several times a month at each other's homes for a play date. The MOYC group provides a great way to make friends while the children make new friends through play. The mothers have taken the group a step further by organizing social outings without the kids and sometimes with spouses! Mothers of Young Children is a wonderful source of information for schools, classes for children, and for babysitters! The children are generally pre-school age and younger. For more information, contact: MOYC Movie NightA reason to get out of the house. Movie night is a fun activity and an ideal way for new members to meet other newcomers in a low key setting. The date, movie title, theater location and time of the next gathering will be emailed the Friday before the date once theater times are confirmed. Everyone is responsible for her own ticket. So, if you decide to come at the last minute or the babysitter cancels, there's no problem! To get in the loop, ask to be put on the e-mail list. Don't forget your popcorn money. For more information, contact: Movie Night ![]() Socials Our monthly cocktail party. Usually on the 3rd Saturday of the month, a member opens her home to greet Newcomers new and old. Each person or couple is asked to bring an appetizer for 8-10 people. Socials are a great way to meet people and learn about the Main Line in a comfortable setting ... and an opportunity to bring spouses along! For more information, contact: Socials Tennis - Indoor We do the work, you do the Love-15. The indoor tennis season is underway and we have three groups: Monday, Wednesday or Friday. All three tennis groups are always in need of new players to substitute but you must place your name on the list.
Tennis is a wonderful way to meet new people and to exercise at the same
time. We play at Bryn Mawr Racquet Club. For more

Ladies TennisTennis - Couples Indoor Couples indoor tennis meets once a month on a Saturday night for a friendly game of tennis and a potluck dinner to follow at a member's home. Want to get in on a "win-win" situation? This group is looking for new couples whose level of play is 3.0 or better. Don't forget... It's Game-Set-Match ... and Dinner! For more information, contact: Couples Indoor Wine & Dine This group invites all gourmands to attend. If you like to cook, eat and drink wine, this is the place for you! Wine & Dine members are divided into small groups of 8-12 each month, and given recipes to follow. A hostess is assigned and also prepares a dish. Everyone shares in the cost of the evening. Recent menu themes have centered around selected works of literature and the travels of Marco Polo. The year, the theme is Celebrations. Another chance to include your spouse - or not!
